Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Plot and Filler Episodes

The Japanese version of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime is Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. It first aired in Japan in 1997, and the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX series followed in 2004. During its run, it had a total of 589 episodes. Unlike the english version of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Duel Monsters is more based on the manga, which explains why it has so many filler episodes.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Plot

The story follows a young boy named Yugi Muto who enjoys playing the card game Duel Monsters. He became entangled in an ancient war between two great opponents, the forces of good and evil, in which an ancient Egyptian relic known as the Millennium Puzzle held the balance between both sides. He figured out the Millennium Puzzle, and as a result, he developed a new personality within himself that he calls Yami Yugi.
