Tower of God Episode 13: Review

So, the journey has finally reached to its climax but things seem to just get started. Since this was just the prologue, there is indeed a lot to happen and story has just begun considering the current situation of the characters in the anime series.

Despite of being a dreadful character, Rachel seems interesting but not in a positive way. There was always something fishy about this character and now that we get to see things from her views, she seems fascinating. The episode was basically the repetition but from Rachel’s perspective and it starts with the beginning of her journey in Tower and to our surprise she is not chosen. So I wonder if she is Irregular in place of Bam. I was intrigued to see things from her perspective and what she was assigned with and how it twisted her already vulnerable state of mind. She seemed to have strong willpower but she was not stable mentally until she decided something. The laughing part was not in the manga but I liked it since it implied her mental state after murdering a person who took her as a star. The way she looked away from her hand probably shoes that she is guilt or may be it was just the emptiness that she is certainly feeling.

Rachel is terrifyingly self-centered. She only views Bam as an irritating hurdle despite of being treated like someone special and she later realized it to be true, knowing that she can’t be a shining star until he dies. It is so unfortunate to see her being too eager to go up the tower to request Headon to let her be there even though her wish is so silly. Her “see the stars” wish was not any less rubbish but her real wish is even more ridiculous and hilarious at the same time. It’s a place where people climb to help their people like Hoh but Rachel climbs it to feel special. Even Bam is not enough for her as she wish for more and Bam is an obstacle that she wants to get rid of. This girl is a psychopath.

But she is still a fascinating character for me. Characters in this series are mostly boring to those who are a little better than them. Whereas Bam is just another plain character and Endorsi is fine. Khun was my favorite because of his interesting and smart personality. Rachel is another fascinating character because of her weirdness but now she has proved to be psycho and it is getting more interesting.

Obviously, Bam is not dead and he has support of Hansung and Hwaryun. Althogh she was helping Rachel. I think we will get to know more in the next season. But for now Rachel seems to win as everyone is helping her climb the tower instead of Bam but not if Khun come to know or Bam shows up again before they do.
