Witch anime. The witch, possibly because strong people with supernatural abilities have been in our mind and our lives since ancient times, is one of the most intriguing fictional characters. Mortals believed the knowledge was, well, mystical because science was not completely created. For witches, who were present in the anime universe in all shapes and personalities, time and imagination did the most. Let’s recall some of the greatest witch anime of all time with that!
Table of Contents
1. Shuumatsu no Izetta (Izetta: The Last Witch)
It’s around 1940. Europe is in the midst of a war, and Germany is preparing to invade Elystadt, a tiny land. The princess of this country is abducted, too, but then Izetta, the final witch, escapes from her cage. The princess knew Izetta, so she vowed to protect Elysdat from Germania.
A few attempts to mix witches and war have been made, but the new one was a fascinating and fresh experiment. Getting conflicting personalities, Izetta and Princess Perfect. They can both be called too young and inexperienced, but in order to show that they can handle the scenario, they have to mature. Shuumatsu no Izetta tells us the tale of an extraordinary witch, full of acts, mystery and some Macross nostalgia (due to the increasing moral component).
2. Nurse Angel Ririka SOS
Let’s get the classic underway, shall we? The Dark Joker and their minions have ruined planet Earth. Ririka Moriya’s world can only be rescued by the force of the Flower of Creation. Therefore, in order to locate the flower and fight against the Evil Joker, she becomes the Nurse Angel.
Yes, Ririka isn’t your usual witch with a pointed hat in purple, but hey! Of the soldiers who used spells to help people, she is. She’s got to live a double life battling bad, claiming to be a normal person. Plus, we have a fantastic plot twist at the end. Nurse Angel Ririka SOS is full of memories and high quality cell animation, so it is worth to save from the memory’s vault.
3. Junketsu no Maria (Maria the Virgin Witch)
Bienvenue in France, the Middle Ages! We meet Maria here, who lives in the middle of the war against England with her two family members. Owing to the constant use of its magic to shield the innocent, Archangel Michael is brought down to deter it from the heavens. The archangel then issues a decree which states that she will indeed sacrifice her spirit if Maria loses her virginity. However, if the situation grows more dangerous, the church will stop her. The heroine will not do this.
No Maria begins with Junketsu with a lot of humor as a historic adventure. But the mood becomes more intense from time to time as the sequence continues. It is meant to punish double morals, and Maria won’t do it! It helps to make her a happier teenager, and to get some Ecchi here and there.
4. Mahou Shoujo-tai Arusu (Tweeny Witches)
When you believe in magic, what do you do? Some people say you’re supposed to fulfill your wishes, but are you supposed to do so, even though it means going into another world? Arusu is transported to a domain where witches rule, trapping and compelling sprites into slavery. So, sure, dreams aren’t really as good as you hoped they were, but Arusu’s got a strategy to make things improve…
At its period, Mahou Shoujo-tai Arusu had a diverse, complex and detailed style of painting. Also original was the difference between a magical lover and a world where magic is a weapon of tyranny, reminding us a bit of an anime RPG fantasy theme that would become popular in later years. The best part of Arusu’s epic adventures, though, is that they are not overwhelmingly depressing or serious; there is space for fun! The characters of Mahou Shoujo-tai Arusu, full of personality and creativity, are a treat for fans of Witch anime.
5. Sugar Sugar Rune
Chocolat Meilleure and Vanilla Mieux are two friends who are witches, in addition to that. They’re in a race to see who’s going to become the next Ruler of the Witches’ Kingdom, so they’ve got to return to Earth to gather human hearts. This means they are competitors as well! Can they maintain their friendship? In order to find out, you will have to watch Sugar Sugar Rune!
You’ve got to watch Candy Sugar Rune if you like your witches in the cutest girl power form possible. This plot, entertaining, thrilling, and magical at every minute, promises to catch your attention. Don’t panic, because it seems like only one of many fuzzy anime shoujo, but it’s got its depth. It is also a looong, helping you to better understand about the characters and making space for a surprise or two.
6. Flying Witch
When a girl reached 15, something special happens, but they must be vigilant to learn witchcraft in the case of witches. When Makoto Kowata turns fifteen, she and her black cat Chito fly to Aomori. She will discover just what she wants there, since nature encourages magical studies. Our witch can practice intensely, as she pretends to live a normal girl’s life, along with Makoto’s cousins Kei and Chinatsus Kuramoto.
If you’ve ever asked how if it was a teenager, look no further. Kiki (from Kiki’s Delivery Service). Makoto is a mystical lead that takes life at its own speed. This whole series is dedicated to nature love, which in Aomori is breathtaking. The ideal blend of sorcery and lifestyle is the flying Witch.
7. Umineko no Naku Koro ni (Umineko: When They Cry)
Perhaps your cup of tea is a slice of life and cheerful witches. Perhaps you want to be watching a witch anime that frightens you. Let’s suggest Umineko no Naku Koro ni in this situation. There is an isolate island, a mystery dunnit, terror and a mighty witch. When the head of the Kinzou family sees his death approaching, he invites the family to gather on the island. You do it once a year, but the Patriarch is too desperate, this time, to look at Beatrice, the Love of his life.
You know, we generally do everything but help with the black magic. However, we attest to a warped game where reality seems unreal due to some profoundly confused characters. Death is concealed in every corner and who would become wealthy when Kinderzou is gone, is the least that you would like to know. The tale of Beatrice, the Golden Witch is what we all want to see!
8. Majo no Takkyuubin (Kiki’s Delivery Service)
Witches needs to leave their parents home once they come of age. Kiki has been 13 but she’s gone to the coastal city of Koriko, bringing her black cat Jiji. She finds a room in Osono’s bakery, where she begins working on deliveries after a tough time to adapt for her new environment. So Kiki has the notion of getting a delivery service for himself.
Who is better than the Ghibli Studio with Hayao Miyazaki to tell us a magical story? Kiki is delighted to be an energetic little girl searching for her real call in life. This film has been around for decades and is still popular with otatku. She has struggles, warm moments, decisive moments.
9. Witch Hunter Robin
Robin is a fifteen year old teenager with genes and memories of witches. She comes to Japan as a witch hunter to collaborate with STN Japan. Robin’s job is however to catch the witches alive and see how and why they have gained their powers. Our heroine will find out more than she planned at the outset using the strength of modern medicine to battle the witches.
The mystery and action are full of all the chapters of Witch Hunter Robin. Robin is the perfect witch if you prefer sci-fi and thriller. This anime comes with a more mature language, beginning with a weekly story monster. The key plot catches you until the characters and the setting are well determined.
10. Little Witch Academia
The witch Sparkling Chariot has always been loved by Atsuko Kagar, a.k.a Akko. Our protagonist dreams of becoming a witch himself and enrolls at the Magical Academy in Luna Nova. She will make friends there with Lotte Yansson and Sucy Manbavaran, and she will find the wand of Sparkling Chariot at best! But becoming a witch means a lot more than the girls think and they won’t have it easy, particularly Akko, who isn’t from a fairy family.
Tiny Witch Academy is of the same vein whether your best witch is on Harry Potter or The Worst Witch. Akko is all excited in the world but even though her stories are in a fun format, you should keep your interest in the screen with some suspense. All in all, there are the issues of effort and fellowship, which burn our hearts. Yeah, the building of the earth, so full of detail!
Conclusion
Witches will always be there to remind us that even in our regular, everyday life there are surprises around us. They embody even the force of existence, the strength of the unseen, or just what we don’t know yet. Witch anime is still going to be a success, so please tell us. What’s your favorite anime witch?
