Toilet-bound Hanako-kun Volume 1: Manga Review

You might have heard or probably following the anime adaptation of the manga, Toilet-bound Hanako-kun as it is currently being aired. The anime is also available on streaming site FunimationNow. This article is about the manga of this anime brought by Yen Press in which I’ll be discussing if the manga is as good as the anime has been so far.

It tells the story about Nene Yashiro who is interested in supernatural and mystic things and wants to have a romantic relationship with her crush. There are seven mysteries that have been heard in Kamome Academy and the ‘haunting girl in a girls’ washroom’ is one of those rumors. The story regarding the third-floor haunted bathroom is that if someone will summon the ghost, Hanako-san, she will make your wish come true. As there is no harm, Yashiro goes to that bathroom to summon Hanako-san.

Yashiro achieves her goal of summoning Hanako-san but unexpectedly, it’s actually a boy instead of a girl, named Hanako-kun (since he is a boy). Hanako-Kun is fascinated with Yashiro’s response on this and tells her that everything she has heard about him is true except for the rumor that Hanako is a girl. He can fulfill someone’s wish with something valuable in return

Hanako-kun asks for her wish, on which Yahiro tells him that she wishes to have a romantic relationship with her crush. Hanako-kun is overjoyed on getting a wish to make true as he has not been doing that for a long time. But to make this wish true, he doesn’t use his power and gives her a few advices on how to impress him and make him love her back.

The manga is written by AidaIro and Toilet-bound Hanako-kun is the first manga of Aildaro that is going to have more than one volume. The artwork of this manga is quite different and is styled as glasswork painting which looks gorgeous – the vibrant and bright colors can be seen at the first page of the book.

The artwork of Aidalro looks vibrant with minimal shading and dark hues. The characters are nicely written and are expressive, since the series is not just funny and sometimes become emotional. The artwork style of Hanko-kun is very eye-catching with its bright color that makes it look like something supernatural.

It’s not just the visuals that attracts you but the characters are also very interesting. Yashiro is a brave and courageous girl with a strong willpower and give the vibe of a shonen leading character. Her bubbly nature suits well with the cheerful personality of Hanako-kun. For now, there are many things that are yet to be revealed regarding Hanako-kun the revelation about his past and his existence will be thrilling. As he is a supernatural individual, he can be troublesome for the human world but as long as Yashiro is with him, he will be not harm anyone.
