Somali to Mori no Kamisama Episode 7: Review

Another episode with beautiful landscape where we get to learn more about their world. It seemed like a beginning of something that is about to happen and this episode was just an introduction to it. After bidding farewell to Haitora and Uzoi and a bittersweet chat with Haitora, we moved forward to the village of witches. Both the village and the witches were visually appealing. It looked like heaven on earth with great food, piles of books with so many cute witches.

The shocking and yet worrying part of this episode was knowing about the time Golem is left with. It didn’t look like that but they have been travelling for longer than we thought in the earlier episode Golem mentioned that he had more than a year left and this episode, he has got only 301 days to live. He is running out of time now and in such a long time of travelling he couldn’t meet any human except Haitora. At this rate, it seems like he would never be able to find any human in his remaining lifetime. Somali wonders about humans and wish to know more about them.

Witches look a lot like humans when it comes to their appearance. It’s only their magical powers that makes them different. Is that the reason why they are not treated like humans? Just because they have magical powers their relationship with all those creatures is not the same as they have with humans? This sort of implicates that humans are perceived so lowly just because they do not have any special powers or probably weird appearance.

After learning that horrible things about how humans have been killed and treated in the hands of monsters, how can Golem assume that she will be safe with humans. It does makes sense that Golem has to find her someone he can rely on to take care of Somali after him but still, after all this time, how he can still have hopes that he can find her parents when it seems impossible to find any human at all. Haitora said that they are hiding somewhere (and so was his group who died while doing the same) and are not safe. Somali seems the only human in this world who is living without any fear of being killed as she has Golem by her side but how will she manage to survive after his death even if she ends up with humans. She could live in peace with these creatures who look a lot like humans. All that has to be done is to dress up her like them. In my opinion it is better for her to live with witches than humans.

Moving further Golem tries to get any clue regarding humans. Shockingly, there is only one book in such a huge library that he can get any help from. Hazel takes them to Praline who is her sister. Both sisters are adorable. Although this episode was a little plain but these witches made it amusing. As soon as they find the book, they are targeted by a book-eating fish. They take The Chronicles of Haraiso and Somali is eager to find all about humans, she tried everything she could save it but sadly she failed to protect it. After the book was destroyed the fish moved towards Somali but Golem in its way and was harmed. The fighting scene was good and for the first time we got see Golem fighting like that. But is it not good for his health to be harmed like that as his body is already not in the good shape. The scene was amazing to watch but sadly it comes at the cost of Golem’s life.

As usual there were also some emotional scene where we are reminded how much Golem has learned to love Somali. It was heart wrenching to see him talking about his sorrow of reaching towards death but when he looks at Somali being in good health and smiling, he forgets all his pain and sadness and refers her as his ‘peace of mind’ even when they reach to a point where they can’t figure out anything and lose all hopes. It’s her smile and wellbeing that makes him feel good no matter how tough the life is. Golem understands those emotion and it was really nice how he move his hand toward his heart when he realized that. He seems full of those emotions again when Somali sobbed when the book was destroyed. It is so nice to see their heartwarming relationship.

Now that the book has been destroyed, it seems like there is nothing left that could give them information regarding humans. But, thankfully there is another way to get the information that book had. For that they need to meet the last person who read the book and that is the head the librarian. We will meet that person in the next episode. It feels like that the next episode is going to be heavy with emotions and there is something big is going to happen soon. As much as I’m prepared for all bad things, I love it even more and it is getting enjoyable with every episode. The witches and their village has just been introduced and I’m already excited to see more of them. They are not just beautiful but fun to watch. Their character is very interesting. As usual the, the episode was aesthetically gorgeous and eye catching.
