The previous episode was full of cute and emotional moments between Golem and Somali while we also get to see some development in their relationship but this episode is rather dark. I guess, there is no concept of blood transfusion in their world.
After the sad farewell to Kikila, The journey of Golem and Somali continues in the desert. They reached a welcoming Winecup Town through wagon. There they encounter two bird-like-people Uzoi and Haitora who are also travelling in the desert like them. They are in search of medicine to cure Haitora’s sickness. Golem tells them that he is in search of humans to study them. I don’t think he had ever mentioned this reason before or probably he did. But it felt something new.
So Haitora is basically a human like Somali and Uzoi detected that Somali is a human too when they were having argument on ice cream. Haitora seems to be quite strange. There is no doubt he is a human but like Uzoi he has feathers on his eye too. They don’t seem to have much time as he bleeds while coughing and seems to be in a really bad situation and Uzoi has something in mind regarding Somali that wasn’t revealed till the end. But this moment made us anxious, and made us question about Uzoi’s intention. It seemed like she would change her mind until we heard her saying ‘We need you alive!’
It was a really good episode as we could compare these two with Golem and Somali. The characters other than the main characters in this series are very interesting. Every character has something different and a different nature and every characters fulfills a purpose which makes their presence important in that respective episode. It’s not just Golem and Somali that makes me wait for new episodes of this series but it’s appearance of these interesting characters that adds to the beauty of this series. Even Uzoi can’t be hated even though we can see some darkness in her personality.
She confesses her love for Haitora but hat love is different from the one Golem and Somali have for each other. He has been there for her after she lost her parents and therefore she is very close to him. In fact, he is the only family she has so her love for him is very strong. Somali was right about the resemblance and like everyone she would go as far as she can to save the person she loves from dying. It’s not a good situation as Somali is just an innocent kid. She can’t foresee what Uzoi is up to and is helping her around with some stuff. Things would become very ugly when she will find that she has been betrayed by someone she trusted. Fortunately, Haitora is not in favor Uzoi’s plan and reveals it to Golem but it would have been better if he did that earlier as it’s too late now. I want to know what exactly his illness is. Is he gradually becoming a bird (can’t say if it’s even possible in this world) but his body is unable to transform so he is slowly dying? I think Uzoi thinks that Somali’s blood would help save Haitora as both are human. But if that’s even possible, how did that happen in first place. I can’t wait to know that.
It’s terrifying. But it was a great episode in terms of the visuals and the new characters. Uzoi’s character design is impressive. It was fascinating to see them journey into the desert. There were some really interesting creatures like that huge turtle like creature and desert shark. It was almost like an ocean turned into desert along with all its creatures. This makes me curious about more creatures in the wild and also the gadgets like the one that they use to locate caves. The world building in this anime is cool. All in all it was a one great episode and I’m curious to see how it will continue from here.
