The Origins: Swords Brought to Life

Initially launched in January 2015 in Japan, the “Touken Ranbu” franchise revolutionizes historical storytelling by transforming iconic Japanese swords into striking bishōnen characters. Nitroplus, with their flair for design and narrative, has masterfully crafted the characters and scenarios, creating a vibrant, interactive world for players.

The Legacy and Expansion of Touken Ranbu

The “Touken Ranbu” series has already cast a wide net over the entertainment industry, spawning a multitude of adaptations beyond its gaming roots. The Katsugeki: Touken Ranbu television anime and its forthcoming film, not to mention the Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru side project’s multiple anime installments and films, are testaments to the series’ widespread appeal. Moreover, the franchise has crossed into live-action with two feature films, captivated audiences with theatrical musicals and plays, and expanded its narrative through various manga contributions.

Despite its global allure, Johren decided to sunset the English and Chinese versions of the original Touken Ranbu browser game on August 21. However, international fans were first able to experience the game in English in April 2021, followed by the smartphone edition’s release in August of the same year.

Upcoming Theatrical Endeavors

The storyline continues to evolve with Touken Ranbu Kai: Kyoden Moyuru Honnōji, an anime iteration of the first non-musical stage play set to debut in April. Furthermore, the kabuki stage play Touken Ranbu: Tsuki no Tsurugi Enishi no Kiri no wa will grace Japanese cinema screens with its unique blend of traditional and modern starting April 5.
