One Piece Chapter 1054: Shanks, who is close by, reflects on his past and decides not to join Luffy but to go after Bartolomeo instead, while the Nine Red Scabbards, Yamato, and Momonosuke try to prevent Ryokugyu from reaching the Straw Hat Pirates. The murder of Nefertari Cobra, for which Sabo is rewarded, is believed to have occurred within the past few months. One Piece Chapter 1054’s Summary
As Ryokugyu continues his journey to the Flower Capitol, he reflects on the rarity of his ability to sway others’ opinions. Nevertheless, he is thwarted by the efforts of Denjiro, Inuarashi, and Kawamatsu. Ryokugyu orders everyone to get out of the way. As Raizo and Denjiro discover that Ryokugyu is a Marine, they know they have found Luffy’s opponent. Since he is a Forest Man and has eaten the Logia-type Mori Mori no Mi, Ryokugyu uses his Devil Fruit powers to attack everyone.
As Wano is not a part of the World Government, Ryokugyu teaches the samurai that the World Nobles are gods and that they have no rights. He also tells them that social stratification is what has allowed humanity to progress to this point. To him, stability is achieved via prejudice, thus he thinks non-aligned countries should be put in their place. In the midst of the six defending themselves, Ryokugyu declares that he will kill as many civilians of Wano as necessary to apprehend Luffy since he does not consider it wrong to kill individuals not a part of his gang.
Suddenly Yamato appears, knocks Ryokugyu unconscious with a smack of his fist, and tells him that what he just said makes him sick. After 20 years of oppression, the people of Wano finally achieve their independence, and Yamato promises Ryokugyu that he would not allow him to destroy it. But, Ryokugyu simply inquires as to the man’s identity. The Admiral is taken aback when Yamato reveals that he is, in fact, Kaidou’s son. Later, Momonosuke, dressed as a dragon, appears and compliments Yamato on his speech.
He tries to use a Bolo Breath on Ryokugyu just like Kaidou did, but it has no effect. Momonosuke quickly approaches Ryokugyu, bites him, and urges him to leave so he may continue guarding Wano. When Ryokugyu pushes Momonosuke out of the path by wrapping his roots around him, Momonosuke is unable to do the same. Even though Yamato tries to intervene, Momonosuke orders him to stand aside.
Meanwhile, the Red Hair Pirates lurk in the waters around Wano, ready to pounce at any moment. Officers try to convince Shanks that they need to go meet Luffy, but he’s preoccupied with memories of Kozuki Oden and his children. Remembering the day he and his crew ambushed the World Government ship carrying the Gomu Gomu no Mi and the time he spent in Luffy’s village until he lost his left arm trying to save him, he now looks at Luffy’s new wanted poster and reflects on the events of those days.
Afterward, he shocks his team by announcing that he will not be meeting Luffy in Wano after all. He explains that he has been tasked with cleaning up the damage that Bartolomeo made in one of their regions by burning his flag and replacing it with Luffy’s. Yet he does enquire of Benn Beckman as to whether or not they should go after One Piece.
Fleet Admiral Sakazuki was informed of the World Government’s inability to ignore the Revolutionary Army while visiting Marine Headquarters in the New World. Chief of the Marine Criminal Affairs unit Kurouma reveals that Sabo became infamous for killing Nefertari Cobra, king of Arabasta, and destroying the symbol of the World Nobles. Sabo and the other leaders of the Revolutionary Army rescued Bartholomew Kuma and escaped despite Fujitora and Ryokugyu’s best efforts to capture them.
Kurouma reveals that Cobra’s daughter also vanished, and he is still trying to figure out what connection there was between her and her father’s death.
