Kenpachi Zaraki: Kenpachi Zaraki (更木 剣八, Zaraki Kenpachi), the 11th Division Captain of Gotei 13. Kenpachi is certain that having pleasure should come before work. The only high-ranking officer who is not busy, or rather, busy having fun, is Yumichika, who Kenpachi sends to fend off the Bount in Karakura Town.

Appearance
Kenpachi is a strong, powerful Shinigami who looks wild and violent, which is in line with his character. He has a long face with prominent cheekbones and prominent brow ridges that are hairless. He has long, stringy black hair and emerald eyes. His long, thin scar, inflicted on him by Retsu Unohana while he was still a young child, runs across his left eye and down the left side of his face.
He is dressed in a sleeveless captain’s haori and white bandages around his midsection in addition to the traditional Shinigami shihakush. He puts little bells at the tips of his stiff, bath-styled strands of hair and covers his right eye with a distinctive black eyepatch.
The eyepatch is more exquisite during his first fight with Ichigo; it has a gold-like lining and a chain serving as one of the straps. He also donned a choker necklace in black. He eventually took the choker off and gave his eye-patch regular straps.
Personality
Kenpachi loves a good fight more than anything and lives for conflict. In an effort to prolong any conflict, he even holds back. He says that suffering harm or losing one’s life is simply the cost of a good fight. Despite his propensity for brutality, Kenpachi typically ends a fight if his opponent is unable to defend himself.
He justifies this by saying he is not interested in battling “weaklings who can’t fight anymore” and he does not feel compelled to kill anyone who is unable to defend themselves.
Kenpachi takes a bath every day before bed, which contributes in part to his distinctive haircut. He typically uses soap to wash his hair during these baths, which makes it stiff. He likes doing this since it is simple for him to fix his hair in the way he prefers.
He once tried a hair treatment that 1st Division Lieutenant Chjir Sasakibe had suggested, but after a while, his hair became excessively smooth and was difficult to style. Kenpachi has had a strong disdain for the lieutenant ever then.
Kenpachi has exhibited a high level of respect for opponents who can outmatch him in a fight and challenge him to the limit. Kenpachi has regarded Retsu Unohana as a member of his Division ever since Ichigo Kurosaki dealt him his first known defeat since that match.
Kenpachi consistently professes his desire for a rematch with Ichigo every time they encounter him, despite Ichigo’s refusal to do so because he views Kenpachi as an ally. In order to make Ichigo stronger for “their anticipated fight,” he also helped Ichigo fight the Bount.
Power and Abilities
Kenpachi’s proficiency with his sword has been refined to virtually a masterful level as a result of the lawlessness of the Zaraki district, allowing him to strike repeatedly with effortless changes in attack type. Even as a young child, he was skilled enough to engage in combat, hurt Retsu Unohana, the first Kenpachi, and kill hundreds of adult combatants on his own.
He always fights with one hand free and only uses both hands when necessary, as when battling Nnoitra and briefly Ichigo, who he believes will defeat him despite his undeveloped skills and great sword power. He is one of, if not the most, skilled swordsmen in all of Soul Society and is the captain of the 11th Division, which focuses on sword fighting.
Kenpachi was forced to learn Shinigami Zanjutsu by Yamamoto before formally joining the Gotei 13, however, the instruction was brief due to Yamamoto’s concern that Zaraki would grow too strong. Kenpachi now holds some knowledge and proficiency in this art.
Kenpachi’s Reiryoku intensity also serves as a kind of armor, protecting him against anyone who isn’t at least as powerful as him. He initially showed this when he confronted Ichigo. Kenpachi permits Ichigo to attack him at the beginning of the fight, but despite leaving himself entirely vulnerable and not resisting, Ichigo not only failed to cut him but also began bleeding from the recoil.
Bankai Special Ability
Kenpachi’s Bankai gives him incredible physical strength and cutting power, allowing him to easily knock down a huge Gerard Valkyrie with a single hit, take off his arm in one motion, and cut him in half from a fair distance. When in his Bankai, Kenpachi transforms into a mindless berserker who acts without thought or consideration for his own life.
Plot
Kenpachi and Gin Ichimaru make fun of Byakuya Kuchiki for being unhappy over his sister Rukia’s death sentence, arguing that a noble family would not tolerate having a criminal as a member. In retaliation, Byakuya claims that commoners are unable to comprehend the emotions of nobility.
Kenpachi, who acknowledges that he doesn’t truly, claims that because of his superior intelligence, Byakuya should permit him to kill Rukia before she is put to death.
Byakuya says that he didn’t realize that Kenpachi, at his level, was capable of killing people. Kenpachi challenges Byakuya to a duel, but Gin intervenes to bind up Kenpachi and haul the objecting man away.
Following Ichigo Kurosaki’s arrival in Soul Society with his comrades, Kenpachi tells Ichimaru that a captain shouldn’t have any trouble slaying a Ryoka. An invasion warning sounds as soon as Kenpachi asks Yamamoto where the Ryoka are going, and Kenpachi is forced to leave the captains’ meeting.
