Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2 Episode 12: Review

Season 2 of Kaguya Sama: Love is War has ended. Compared to previous episode this episode was quite underwhelming especially for a last episode. The episode was not bad but Ishigami’s arc was very heartwarming and emotional. But we can’t complain about that as we all know the season had to end with an episode focused on the main couple.

The episode was very cute in the beginning but later things got quite creepy when the principal took lion’s pictures and said “leave your body to me.”. Good thing is that the creepy scene didn’t last longer and it moves towards something more serious with Kaguya and her broken phone. There are many Kaguya contemplative and indicates in may ways her family really keeps Kaguya in distance from others. She is not allowed to share her pictures on any media. I feel sad for her as she is only one who is not included. She begin saving pictures as a part of her good memories with everyone but unfortunately her phone broke into pieces after being offered to take pictures of everyone.

Initially I had an impression that things won’t turn out to be so sad and she will be able to retrieve the photos at the very least but unfortunately her phone was not an updated one and did not save pictures on SD card leaving no option for her to get those pictures back. Her sadness is justified because it’s not just the pictures but her precious memories that she wanted to keep with her and now she had nothing with her. No matter how she behaves around others she loves them and wanted to treasure the memories she made with them. It was evident but her face that she was depressed.

We got peek into how Kaguya has been treated by her family. She has been left out and they do not let her know any of their problems. This explains why Kaguya keeps her troubles to herself. It’s sad to see her being brought up that way. But I’m glad that she could share her happiness and create bonds with everyone in the students council which changed her personality. They didn’t only made her feel like they are her family but also changed her and cared about her. Even in the mid of so much commotion made in the council, they are considerate towards each other and always have each other’s back at the time of need. I liked how they all got involved and shared pictures that they had in their phones giving back all hose memories that she wanted to save. It was a very heartwarming scene, particularly when Kaguya opened about what was bottling up inside. Although it’s not a very major character development but it was adorable. It became sweeter and nicer when everyone took a group picture for her.

It would have been better if the season had ended with Kaguya’s phone because ending with the balloon popping game was not very touching. It was meant to be end it in a funny note but it didn’t seem like a climactic moment. Although I like the idea of all characters going back to their character development when they come infront of that huge balloon. It was hilarious. It was hilarious how Kaguya got rid of the a side of her face to blow up the balloon while getting chaotic inside.

The best thing about this balloon popping game was the explosion after which the opening theme from the previous played. My all disappointment vanished with that ending and I couldn’t help but admire this episode. Even if it didn’t end on an emotional note, it was the best way to end the season and I loved it. It was the perfect ending of this series.
