Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 16: Reiew

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 16: Reiew

This season has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions and this episode was even more emotional than the previous all episodes. Every member of Sohma have their own reason for being miserable and having some insecurities and so far Yuki seemed to have suffer the most as we witnessed his terrible mother. All they need is love and care from people around them and the same thing was featured in this episode including Tohru’s heartbreak.

So this episode had two main plot. Tohru plans to confirm if the man Uo is in love with is the same Kureno she met in summer house and inorder to meet him goes to Sohma estate and on her way she run into Momiji’s sister Momo who helps her get inside through a secret hole and then she finds Momij with violin after which we get to know something very surprising, heartwarming and sad.

Momiji is sweet but was never one of my favorite characters but I don’t think after watching this episode I would be thinking the same. We get to know that Momiji had to gave up on his violin lessons because his sister have learning violin from the same teacher. It seems like Momo is starting to become curious about her relation with Momiji as she has started to notice her resemblance with Momiji. Aftre making so much effort to maintain peace, Momiji’s father asks him to quit violin lessons so that those efforts would not go in vein. And as usual we see Momiji smiling with the burden of that suffering buried deep down in his heart. Momiji’s story is one of the most tragic but it was god to see him genuinely happy when Tohru told him about Momo’s wish. But it’s not possible that this wish will come true which is heartbreaking. We learned in season 1 that Momiji’s father plays the role of both parents but it doesn’t seem like that as Momiji doesn’t seem to be as important to him as his wife and daughter. He prioritize happiness of his wife and daughter over him even making him sacrificing for their happiness. That’s what Momiji said, since he is aware about his father’s struggle to keep everyone happy in his family. It’s understandable since his wife tried to kill herself but Momiji does not deserve this.

Infact he deserves all the happiness of the world as he is very selfless and loving character. I really hope that his all dreams come true one day. This episode made me love him even more . It’s a wishful thing ad I know it is impossible but I really wish that he could live with his sister and tell her that he is her bother. But like I asid it’s quite impossible just like the case of Uo and Kureno which is the other main plot of the episode.

Tohru mustered up some courage in this episode and I love that. It’s very unlikely for someone like Tohru to get in the estate and roam around, looking for Kureno. Tohru’s character have been a little boring in season 1 with so much perfection in her character. But in this season her character has started to develop where we are getting to know more about her which is not something a perfect character would do like confronting Akito at summer house and deliberately meddling in the matter of Soma even after his warning. I really like this Tohru. It was really a courageous step to get inside the estate inorder to help her friend get in touch with her crush.

At this point we don’t know much about Kureno and what is his backstory and the fact that he has to live in isolation with Akito especially those who haven’t read the manga have no clue. We also don’t know the reason that he does not want to meet Uo although he clearly wanted to. Tohu comes to only one conclusion that it might be because he is a zodiac member. But I don’t think so, I’m sure it is much more complicated than that and it certainly has something to do with Akito. He is not just isolated but has to live every second of his life according to Akito, which is even worse. But, looks like he also yearns for his share of happiness and live like others since he hold on to the paper Tohru gave him. Seems like there is some hope for him.

Tohru was heartbroken as she can see people around her trying to reaching out to each other but for certain reason, they can’t. It was hurting. It’s not just the case of Sohma but with Tohru herself as we have seen her on the verge of breakdown whenever we she longs for her mother or associate the loss of her mother with losing more people in her life. But her problem is different from them as the person she yearns for is dead but these people are yearns for someone who is alive and simply want to be with each other.

Momiji and Kureno are two of these people who have the same issues. But Kyo is also one of them but Tohru has not realized that yet. Kyo wants to be with her but he has accepted his fate and ready to be locked after graduation. Kyo seemed so cute when he softly said to her that he will support her if she finds someone special.

There is still so much going on in the series that that is mysterious to us like “that woman” who is despised by Akito. And there is something very significant about this character. I hope that this mysterious woman appears soon as there seems to be so many mysteries related to this character.
