Digimon Adventure (2020) Episode 6: Review

The episode has arrived with the third current member of the group, Mimi. I wasn’t really fond of her in but after watching her in Tri and OVA of Adventure 02, she grew up on me but I’m actually happy to see her in this series and would love to see her pre Adventure 02. When it comes to her character, she is genuinely kind and nice. Taichi and Sora are also kind and nice but they are generally “nice” which is not something to describe their character in general. In case of Mimi, there is always a motivation when it comes to help others like when she came to the Digital World, the Digimon that approached her first was Palmon who showed his kindness towards her. That lead her to want to protect Tanemon and help them with the fruit thieves.

She is so kind that she even felt guilty for not being able to help when she came to know about the situation with Tokyo and saw that her grandfather is doing everything in his hand to help others. It made her feel guilty. I think that she inherited this trait of kindness and desire of helping other from her grandfather and I really respect her for that. While they “going to war” with Tuskmon who were under control, Mimi was scared and kept trying hard to strike back. She is very committed and has great sense of responsibility. In the previous one she was quite a spoiled brat but this change of characterization makes her really nice. Although there are still some aspects that shows some of those traits in her like acting as the head of the Queen of the Mini Kingdom. But this time her positive traits overshadowed her negative traits. But since she is a kid, acting like sometimes is justified.

The bond between Palmon and Mimi was really sweet. Although it would have been good to see them meeting for the first time but it’s acceptable that their relationship became stronger when before the show started as Mimi arrive in the Digital World before and Taichi and Sora did. The moment when Palmon was on the verge of death while protecting Mimi was not as emotional as it should have been and felt rushed but still it managed to make an emotional impact. It’s quite early to see them so close to each other but they are very adorable together compared to the bond between Sora and Piyomon.

This episode was great in terms of animation, cinematography and action if we compare it with the previous episodes. Although Birdramon is not that good in terms of animation but they seemed to have put a lot of efforts on the animation of Drimogemon as well as Togemon. It’s quite a treat to watch Togemon in action and the overall fight scene was fascinating and thrilling. I may have enjoyed it much because of my punching bias but still the animation in that scene was great. The fight between Togemon and Drimogemon was visually appealing and thrilling due to all moves.

We also get to see Ogremon fight for the first time and it was against Greymon. This show has already shown us how violent it can be in the first two episodes but still what Greymon did with Ogremon’s horns was unpredictable. It’s probably because things have been a bit relaxed for a while that this much violence was unexpected. But nonetheless, it was great to watch and now Ogremon is just going to go after the kids because of an order but he has more serious and personal reason to chase the

I loved this episode and now I’m more fond of Mimi. Although the character development felt a little rush as it all happened in just an episode rather than taking time through out the series where we see her as a spoiled kid to gradually develop into a someone who reached her destiny. But probably there is more to her story and it didn’t just end there. Her character development may has just begun. The reason why I liked this episode is because it showed interaction between the kids and the local Digimon along with their societies. Although Tanemon should have communicated more. It also reminds me of the episode from the original where Mimi was given the title of “Queen Mimi” by Geckomon. I think it was kind of a reminder of that. After watching this amazing introduction of Mimi I’m super excited to see the introduction of other kids.
