Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 26 (Final): Review

Kimetsu no Yaiba
The most legendary and epic anime has finally ended and it is going to be very hard say good bye to these amazing characters after getting so much attached to them in the past 6 months. Although it has been a great farewell and it would not be wrong to say that we expected these soft moments, golden vows and bittersweet scenes that made us laugh.  Let’s discuss these farewell moments in detail.

Muzan Kibutsuji is extremely angry after getting to know about Rui’s death. The reason of this anger is not because he cares for her but because it is an indication of weakness. He finds the lower moons worthless and kills all of them sparing one moon and inject some of his blood. Meanwhile, anjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu are done with their training. They have become stronger after training that we have witnessed in the last few episodes. They are ready for a new mission. They are sent on the mission of flame hashira by the head of the corps. People are mysteriously getting disappear on the ‘infinity train’ and we get to know that the lower moon with some dose of Muzan’s blood is the one behind it.  The final episode ends with Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu getting on the train while it leaves. Zenitsu wnonders and ask Tanjiro if it is the right decision to bring Nezuko along. Tanjiro tells him that although she would have more safe at the corps but he does not want to get apart from her anymore.

The space where the meeting of the lower moon reminds us of tsuzumi mansion. The orientation of the space changes along with the portals as the sound of the ‘biwa’ plays making it to move. Guess it is the work of the upper moons. It’s probablt the cause of Kyogai getting frustrated for being thrown out of the moons.  Sad for him, a part of getting kicked out some other demon took his place with the same powers. If it’s possible there can be many demons with similar abilities. The animation of changing space was visually very appealing.

It’s not just the farewell for us but for the squad as well since they have been together for many days. Tanjiro saying goodbye to Giyu was the most heartwarming moments of the episode. They have been caring and respecting each other a lot despite of Giyu being a little rude and weird.  The scene in cheering squad tells Zenitsu to be more respectful and nice to girls was the moment to be cheered on. Although he has grown in the past few episode, he still a bit annoying to girls.

We got to witness scar face in the final selection again. It has to be admit that although we have been watching all characters being developed and getting stronger, he still seems to be a bit incompetent. Let’s see if his character will develop in the next season.

While they have grown in strength we can still see some silliness in them which is proved in the final scene with the police at the station. Somethings never change like Tanjiro being the big brother, Inosuke’s aggressiveness and Zenitsu being a sensible weakling. This scene also solved the query regarding demons are no being talked about. Demon slayers are not being acknowledged by the government anymore. Guess it’s their way to maintain peace as it is going to create chaos knowing demons exist.

The whole episode can be summarized by focusing on two parts. One part is the violent scene where we witness Muzan Kibutsuji’ being a god to all the demons. All demons has to agree on whatever he says even if it’s something illogical. He is a dictator to all the demons and everyone has to blindly follow him. He has been trying to brainwash the name of loyalty. He has been the scariest character of the whole series. For him it’s all about how they can be useful to him without caring he made them. He killed lower moons without giving it a second thought who probably have been serving him for more than a century. The one who shows the loyalty that he demand will only be spared. Probably, he believes in the philosophy of bonding through terror and agony. The battle between Tanjiro and him will more about ideologies than using power and strength

The other thing to be focused on is Tanjiroa and Kanao Tsuyuri. It was no doubt a wonderful scene. The way he start the conversation with her is the proof of hs entire character. He takes a little time and observe her quietly before saying something. Seems like what he does and say to her is planned carefully to motivate her. Tanjiro realizes this that she won’t stop using coin with just a small talk so he uses the coin to show her the way to move forward.  It may won’t stop her using the coin once and for all but she may rely on her feelings and her thought from now on. Tanjiro is completely opposite of Muzan who bond with empathy, respect and love.

The final episode is an introduction to a new chapter. Although it ended with smiles on our face and we hope for more in the next season.
