Chihayafuru S3 Episode 17: Review

The match between Master and Queen has started and as expected, it was very intense and became more tensed as it progressed and reach to the climax. It was mind blowing. So much happened during the game like the horrid tactics of Suo to prolong the match to five matches and Shinobu’s misery. In addition to all this drama and tactics, we have Arata being a good guy, telling about NicoNico. It was cute how everyone thanked him even after that long remarks, he is playing his part for the community.

The episode was focused on Shinobu and how lonely she is that makes her the person she is and it was truly painful to watch. She was happy and excited for her match with Haraku as she loves to play and values the gift her grandmother has given to her, but things were ruined when she was exploited in the hands of her mother and unintentionally playing her nasty political games.

Shinoubu’s mother is hard to tolerate. She is mean and doesn’t care about her daughter and she is also very disrespectful towards the game. She doesn’t care a bit about her daughter’s emotions. It doesn’t matter what she feels, she should have kept I to herself. It was very clear in that moment how shattered Shinobu was. She loves the kimono that was gifted to her by grandmother.

But things didn’t end there, things became more unpleasant when Chihaya revealed why she wasn’t able to reach he Eastern Qualifiers. It was because she was heartbroken.  But, Chihaya didn’t get the fact that she failed to fulfill her promise, had she been sick it would have been understandable but it is different when she had the choice and she choose her trip with friends over it. Like it was mentioned earlier, Queen’s title is the only thing she has. She can’t trust her Chihaya anymore, or it will take more effort to regain her trust.

Taichi, Arata and Sudo are the only capable enough who seem to analyze Suo’s intentions and tactics. He had no motivation and he tried everything in his hand to prolong the game which was a nasty trick as it is not good for Dr. Harada physically. But one thing that we noticed here was a good side of him where he was kind enough to take some time out to help his parents handle computer to watch the match. We know how hard it can become to explain these kind of things on phone.

The match between the Queen and master was tough one and concluded with neither a winner nor a loser. The first round was good for both Shinobu and Dr. Harada but can’t say thing will remain same in the next round as Shinobu doesn’t seem to focus now and Dr. Harada has already tired himself by putting so much exertion. Hopefully, the high quality cushion that he has been given by his wife is good enough to work longer.
