The Berserk series was made by Kentaro Miura, a manga artist from Japan. As of May 2021, Berserk had sold more than 50 million copies, including digital copies. It was one of the most popular manga series of all time. Guts is the main character in the manga. He used to be a mercenary and was known as the Black Swordsman. Not only did he have a hard childhood, but the person he comes to trust the most betrays him.
Because of his curse, people want to kill him and demons are drawn to him. His mission, in which he tries to get even with the person who betrayed him, is full of danger and darkness. In this article, we will talk about the Berserk Series and Movies Watch Order.

Berserk Series Watch Order
The episodes of Berserk should be viewed in the sequence listed below. There is a possibility that the most current season is actually two seasons with a total of 24 episodes each, bringing the total number of seasons for this show to three.
1: Berserk (1997)
2: Berserk (2016)
3: Berserk: The Golden Age Arc – Memorial Edition (2022)
Berserk (1997)
Two imaginary nations have been at war for a hundred years in Berserk’s fictional Middle Ages setting. The teenage swordsman Guts is introduced to the mercenary group Band of the Hawk and is eventually forced to join them. Griffith, a charming swordsman with dreams of becoming king, leads the Band. Unfortunately, this won’t be discussed in the pilot. In the premiere, Guts fights creatures in what looks like an alternate dimension and appears to be much older than he is.
Most of Berserk doesn’t have any magic, and the supernatural monsters that were introduced in the first episode are only seen for a few seconds here and there throughout the series. Even more surprising is that it pretty much takes care of itself when it comes to trash. In the middle of the presentation, a random person from the background makes the clear claim that things have gotten much worse since Griffith became king.
This seems to make the remaining episodes of the series pointless, which gives the show an ominous feel, as if everything is doomed to fail in the end. The rest of the story is held together by how well the characters are written. Guts’s defining characteristic is his skill in battle; yet, the influence of Griffith causes him to undergo a transformation and causes him to crave for a personal goal. The character of Griffith is unknown for a significant portion of the show.
Because of Griffith’s offhand remark and the peculiar-appearing object known as the Egg of the King, which he asserts was given to him by a fortune teller, the nature of Griffith’s ambition is ominous.
Berserk (2016)
Guts will eventually win the friendship of Puck, an elf, as well as Isidoro, a young boy who wants to learn how to fight from him. In a chain of events that culminates in another horrifying scene, he comes into contact with Lady Farnese, who is believed to be the commander of a military band, as well as Serpico, who serves as her bodyguard.
“Berserk” is a well-liked anime series because of its graphic violence, intense battle scenes, philosophical undertones, comedic and dramatic moments, and naked characters. In spite of the computer-generated imagery (CGI), the content itself is quite compelling, and viewers quickly become accustomed to the CGI.
The shading is kept black and bloody in a horrifying manner, which does a good job of serving the title, while Hisashi Abe’s figures and the background are rendered in great detail. The conclusion of the season demonstrates the skilled craftsmanship of the production values once more. Hiroshi Iwanagi does an outstanding job portraying Guts, and the bass and depth of his voice are the perfect complements to the character.
On the other hand, the 2017 story arc completely lacks any and all of the positive aspects of the 2016 story arc. The plot suddenly takes an extremely absurd turn, with Guts transforming into a compassionate and even kind man, the new characters being primarily boring, and even the colors becoming bright and even mottled, to the point where the word “fruity” comes to mind.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc – Memorial Edition (2022)
Kentaro Miura’s death shook the foundations of the fictional animation media industry and placed a pall of doubt over several acclaimed shows. Even with everything that went down in the Berserk series, we were still given more in the form of a special television series in 2022 called Berserk: The Golden Age Arc – Memorial Edition. There were a total of 13 episodes in this series.
The popular Berserk Goldern Arc film trilogy has been recut into a 13-episode TV series. Films that were previously exclusively available in Japan are now available on Crunchyroll in a special Memorial Edition for fans across the world to enjoy. In the beginning, only the Japanese public saw it. Since nothing fresh is currently available, fans can “binge-watch” the television adaptation of the Berserk movie trilogy, which boasts one of the most gripping narrative arcs in the history of storytelling. Seeing this series will remind you why Kentaro Miura was so good, even if you have seen everything else on the list. It’s my personal favorite season. So, i will recommend you to watch it.
Berserk Movies Watch Order
The movies have a great impact on the further development of the characters as well as the investigation of a variety of backstories. It is strongly recommended that you not miss any of them, even the OVA. Watch list is as follows:
1: Berserk: Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King (2012)
2: Berserk: Golden Age Arc II – The Battle for Doldrey (2012)
3: Berserk Ougon Jidaihen III: Kourin (2013)
4: Berserk: Recollections of the Witch (2017)- OVA
Berserk: Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King (2012)
After killing Bazuso during a siege, mercenary Guts attracts the attention of the Band of the Hawk and is eventually forced to join the group after being defeated twice by Griffith, the gang’s captain. Following the Hawks’ devastating defeat of the Black Ram Iron Lance Cavalry, Griffith was promoted to a higher position in the Midland royal court, and the Hawks were sent by the Kingdom of Midland during the Hundred Year War with the Tudor Empire.
During one siege, Guts and Griffith meet the demon Nosferatu Zodd, who, upon seeing the Behelit around Griffith’s neck, informs Guts that the latter is destined to become his companion. The noblemen resent Griffith’s rise to power, and when an assassination attempt on the king’s brother Julius goes wrong, Guts is forced to kill him, and he in turn must kill the noble’s son Adonis to eliminate any potential eyewitnesses.
Berserk: Golden Age Arc II – The Battle for Doldrey (2012)
Guts resolves to leave the Band of the Hawk in order to become on equal footing with Griffith after he and fellow Hawk member Casca forged a relationship while defending themselves from attacks by Tudor’s misogynist commander Adon, slaying a hundred of his soldiers while covering Casca’s escape.
He would take part in the bloody battle in which Guts killed the Purple Rhinos’ commander Boscogn and Casca killed Adon in order to take advantage of a civil war in Tudor and seize the impregnable Fortress of Doldrey. A month after taking the fortress and defeating Griffith in battle, Guts and Griffith split up after Guts wins a duel.
Griffith is distraught about the departure of his old ally and makes a critical error in judgement by having an affair with the king’s daughter, Charlotte. Griffith and the other members of the Band of the Hawk are considered criminals and sent to the Tower of Rebirth as punishment for their actions.
Berserk Ougon Jidaihen III: Kourin (2013)
It’s been a full year since Guts’ fight with Griffith and subsequent expulsion from the Band of the Hawk. After finding out they were declared outlaws in Midland, Guts decided to help the Hawks rescue Griffith from the Tower of Rebirth. But they find Griffith to be a broken man, barely alive after months of physical and mental torture that has left him a silent cripple. A solar eclipse transports Griffith, Guts, Casca, and their allies to another world, where they must face the God Hand archdemons just as Griffith is about to commit suicide after noticing what he has become without his Behelit.
Griffith realizes that in order to achieve his goal, he must transform into the God Hand’s final member and offer his friends as branded sacrifices. Guts try to save Griffith, but the latter is reincarnated as Femto, leaving only Guts and Casca to fight off the God Hand’s monster legion of Apostles. The mysterious Skull Knight returns Guts and Casca to their world, but not before Casca loses her mind after witnessing the slaughter of her comrades and the subsequent rape by Femto, and Guts loses his left forearm and right eye while trying to force their former leader to let go of her.
Berserk: Recollections of the Witch (2017)- OVA
This OVA follows Shierke as she mulls over the events of the story thus far, anticipates the horrors to come, and recalls the origins of the Black Swordsman. The tragic loss of Kentaro Miura rocked the world of fictional animation media to its foundations and cast the future of many acclaimed series into question. Despite the tragedy and setbacks, fans of the Berserk series still got new material in 2022 in the form of a 13-episode TV special titled Berserk: The Golden Age Arc.
The Berserk Goldern Arc trilogy is essentially recut into 13 episodes. While the films were originally only shown in Japan, the Memorial Edition is now available on Crunchyroll for fans all over the world to enjoy. There is nothing new for fans to watch, but newer fans will be happy to “binge-watch” the Berserk movie trilogy, which has been adapted into a TV series and features one of the best story arcs in film history. If you’ve already seen everything on that list, then this series is a must-see to remind you of just how great Kentaro Miura was.
Final Thoughts
The difficulty with Berserk is that there is a significant amount of time that passes between the various seasons, movies, and OVA episodes. Due to the fact that there are time jumps involved, it is absolutely crucial you watch Berserk in the order as was outlined above. I cannot urge this point enough. On the other hand, given that Berserk: Recollections of the Witch (2017) is little more than a summary of the second half of the second season, skipping it is hardly a risky proposition. That’s all from our side. I hope you liked our article. Let us know your opinion in our comment box.
