Anonymous Noise: Review

For those who love music and shojo series, the adaptation of Anonymous Noise is the perfect thing to watch that offers them all good elements of both shojo and music. In this article I will be reviewing the Anonymous Noise.

It tells the story about Nino Arisugawa who recently started high school. She is fond of singing and loves music and so decided to join school choir until she gets to know about the school’s band club after watching a performance. During this performance she met her childhood friend Kanda Yuzuriha (referred as Yuzu) who is the member of the band. After reuniting with him, one thing leads to another and her life changed completely.

Nino first Yuzu six years back when she was suffering from depression due to someone who was closest to her heart Momo Sahki as he went away from her. She loved music and singing at that time too and at that time Yuzu motivated her to sing, telling her that one day her voice will reach him.

Now that she is singing with Yuzu in his band and is back on track after joining band In NO Hurry to Shout, her voice unintentionally made her reunite her friend and first love Momo. But, Momo has no intention of getting back to her or befriends her again which made her once again reasonably dejected. She still hoped that one day she will be able to let her voice reach his heart. For that purpose, she does whatever she can to make this band a successful and popular one.

Although the anime series consist of only 12 episodes, so much events happened throughout the series which make it quite a happening series. It keeps showing the relationship of three in the past as well as in the present. Later we also come to know that Momo and Yuzu both love Nino but she only loves Momo even after being pushed away by him more than once. The story just not revolves around their relation with Nino but the relation of Momo and Yuzu as well since both of them became friends before knowing the truth about being rivals.

Apart of the main plot the series is filled with sufficient number of sub-plots but it doesn’t feel messy and things seems to be rightly put. Every episode is captivating and most of the time ends with cliffhanger, that makes you eager about the next episode and if you watch it all at once then you will only stop after completing the entire series. The significant and major moments are enticing and leaves a long-lasting impact and it does not even make you feel like it happened out of nowhere. The story builds up the curiosity and eagerness before getting to those events.

Although the story revolves around the love triangle but one thing which is most admirable in this series in the balance between the love story and music. The decisions and actions made by the characters are because of their feelings for another but it does not make them take the music or their beloved band In NO Hurry to Shout lightly. All band members including Yuzu, Nino, Kuro and Haruyoshi are determined to make it a successful band. In order to achieve that dream they would go beyond their limits to make their viewers love their band.

It’s probably the character’s behavior and decisions that might seem annoying and frustrating. Momo has been shown quite rude to Nino who is head over heels for him. He keeps puching her away teling her no to talk too him and speak with her very rudely. But despite of that Nino doesn’t give up and keep trying chasing him. On the other hand Yuzu is a crybaby who seems to be confused every now then. Once he accepts his feeling for her, he almost prepares himself to tell her but remain in dilemma whether to help her achieve her only wish of getting back to Momo or confess to her about his feelings.

Another major problem that is also a bit annoying for many anime viewers is that the story of anime is left unfinished in the end. As it is the adaptation of manga which consist of 18 volumes, it doesn’t feel like anime will have another season so far. It’s going to be disappointing at the end so it is better to know before you start watching it as being a shojo fan I love the series and would be happy to see more volumes being animated as the manga gets really interesting as the plot moves forward.

studio Brain’s Base is the animation studio of the anime and they have done a great job with the animation and the detailed work at every frame. Although the character design is a little bit off since it is exactly like manga. Most people may not like it as the characters have extremely big eyes and slender bodies which doesn’t look attractive to me. During their performance the animation seems 3D. Although it is very obvious but still it doesn’t seem bad.

As far as music goes, being an essential element of the series, it is undoubtedly amazing. It is composed by Narasaki who has made some lively pop songs for the band in Anonymous Noise and there are also some soft piano and guitar tracks that sounds good too. The songs are unforgettable and have a lasting impact. It resonates with the energetic personalities of the characters. The opening and ending theme are performed by the voice actor of Nino called High School and Allegro respectively. It complements with the story very nicely.

The voice actors have also done great job in giving life to these characters according to their personalities and nature. Voice actors of the main characters are known for their previous works in popular series like Saori Hayami is the voice actor of Nino who has played the role of Shinobu in Demon Slayer, and did justice with the character’s insensible and stubborn nature.  Daiki Yamashita who played the role of Yuzu and has worked in My Hero Academia as Izuku Midoriya. He has also done impressive job in making his character a whiny one who is hopelessly in love.
