Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 6: Review

Finally, the most anticipated and the significant arc has arrived and this truly is going to will be a game-changer for many things going on right now so excitement is at its peak. It’s one hell of an arc where the story and many characters will develop.

Momiji like always decides on his own to spend the holiday on Sohma vacation home with everyone regardless of their opinion. But this plan doesn’t seem to be a bad one as it’s good for everyone to take a break from daily routine. Although Tohru has still not completed her summer homework and she has to get done with it before they go there. Since Yuki helps Tohru with her homework, we get to see some more discussion about the mysterious story of hat. Right when Yuki was about to say something about the hat, he was interrupted by Momiji and sadly we didn’t get know what he wanted to say. Although, it was finally revealed in the end of the episode that the boy who gave her the hat was indeed Yuki. He was the one who helped Tohru when she lost her way home years ago. Although Yuki’s side of the story is yet to be revealed but it seems like he did not expect that much gratitude from the girl he helped years ago as he was astonished when Tohru told him that she kept that hat as its one of her precious memories and she still remembers that boy. It is exciting for Yuki x Tohru shippers as Tohru mentioned in the previous season that the boy who gave that hat to her is her first love.

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 6: Review

We get to see a lot of moments with Hiro in this episode. He surely doesn’t know when to shut his mouth. Hiro seemed adorable in the previous season probably because of his childish bratty attitude that looked cute on him but he seems pretty mature to think before saying something serious to someone. I get that he is a bit jealous of Tohru and that’s kind of cute too but it was extremely rude to say those things about her to Tohru in such a degrading way. Asking her why she is always talking about her mother like there is nothing else to talk made Tohru sad. It seems like it is obligatory for him to talk low of her and degrading her every now and then especially infront of Kisa but I’m glad that Kisa didn’t avoid it like Tohru as she saw Tohru’s reaction which changed abruptly. Kisa made him realize what he said was very rude. He has no idea what is hidden in other people’s heart and he can be wrong too. This makes m wonder that among all he zodiac members, Hiro has been living a peaceful life unlike others. He surely can’t understand the sufferings of those who are tortured and because of their families or Tohru who lost her only family. He is lived a different life from other zodiac members and has never experienced that pain.

But after disappointing Kisa he thought about what he said and that his actions were indeed wrong. He also realized that Tohru might be having the same feelings in her heart that she has kept hidden just his own feelings that he can’t let out. Hiro might be extremely annoying but he is just a kid and has a long way to understand certain emotions. We might get to see some development in his character as he grows up. But if he realized what he said was wrong he should have apologized to Tohru. He did sort of did that through his actions by not making rude comments when she over excited about finding the beetle. He could clearly see that his words did bring some change in her attitude.

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 6: Review

I’ve noticed in this series that everyone seems to make assumption about other characters rather than talking to each other. Hiro assumed tat his words would not affect Tohru and later realized that he was wrong. It’s the same case with Kyo and Yuki. They also seem to assume a lot about each other and they surely need to talk to each other.

Talking about Kyo, I like the interaction between Momiji and Kyo. He really tries to get close to Kyo even though Kyo clearly seems uninterested and always respond him by hitting and teasing him. When Kyo told Momiji that he did not refuse to go to the vacation house, Momiji tried to talk instead of leaving the room. Momoji has noticed some changes in Kyo’s attitude and it’s not first time he made remarks about him being nice which he clearly indicates it has something to do with Tohru. Momiji Knows him better as he is watching him and he does seem to get close to him that could be seen in this episode as Kyo helped him finding Beetle thorough sugar water. I like Kyo when he acts a little friendly and nice and he didn’t bully Momiji a lot in this episode which shows that he getting along. While reding the manga for the first time I didn’t realized the relationship between these two but Momiji has been involved in the development of Kyo’s character, probably not directly but he surely seem to watching him closely as he changes. He might not be to Kyo what Ayame and Hatsuharu are to Yuki but Momiji seems to be the only zodiac member who make effort to get close to him in a friendly way.

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 6: Review

While things were progressing in the Sohma house, Shigure is planning something dubious. Fist he had some odd conversation with Rin and that scene was very weird. What is it that Rin wants to know about? She so desperate to get the answer from Shigure that she is willing to let him to do anything with her. That scene ended without even showing what happened next. Maybe it is some sort of suspense that we will get to see later. But I’m really curious. In the beginning Shigure seemed loyal to Akito but now it seems like he is also manipulating Akito. He didn’t just tell him that that the zodiac members are enjoying their holidays in Sohma Vacation house but also suggested to visit them to teach them a lesson. The relation between Shigure and Akito is very confusing and weird. He seems a little intimate with him but his tone is contradicting to his actions towards him. It seems like he shows his loyalty to Akito but has some hidden motive in mind.

When it comes to character development, seems like Yuki is making some effort to leave his dark past with Akito behind, atleast he is thinking about it. It’s probably because of Tohru or he support of his brother and Hatsuharu that he is willing to do so. He wants to see the light in the darkness that Akito showed him telling him that light is nothing but delusion. He is also willing to ‘open the lid’ which means someday he will open up about his dark past and tell everything to Tohru.

We also get to see a different side of Tohru in this episode. It is the side that she has kept hidden from everyone around her. There are things that she has kept a tight lid on and in her case, they are certain emotions that she doesn’t want anyone to know about. This side of her showed that there are some flaws in her character as well, since she is known to be ‘perfect’. She has some dark thoughts too and she is also depressed but put on a mask of a happy girl infront of everyone to hide it from those around her. She understood what Yuki mean by ‘keeping a lid’ as she has been keeping a lid on her emotions and don’t want to share it with anyone. If Yuki is willing to open to the lid and admit it infront of Tohru, maybe she will so the same one day and let those feelings out. But right now she doesn’t seem willing to do so.
