On Wednesday it was declared by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that the list containing names of 32 movies have been put forward for contemplation in the Animated Feature Film category for its 92nd awards. Utmost 5 movies from the list will be nominated.
The names of anime movies mentioned are given for contemplation
- Children of the Sea by Ayumu Watanabe and Studio 4°C
- Okko’s Inn by Kitaro Kousaka, DLE, and Madhouse
- Promare by Hiroyuki Imaishi and Trigger
- Weathering With You by Makoto Shinkai and CoMix Wave Films’

Not all of these movies were telecast on the seven-day run in the cinema of Los Angeles County to succeed for contemplation up till now.
The nomination will be disclosed on 13 January 2020. On 9 February the 92nd annual Academy Awards will held.
The eligibility criteria for the category of Animated Feature Film have been altered by the Academy. It has eliminate the condition that eight eligible animated should have been opened in cinemas in a one year calendar so then the category will be set in motion. Also the voting for nomination is by design open for the members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch but the other members have to opt-in in order to chip in for voting.
In 2018 about 25 movies were put forward. The anime movie named Mirai by Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu was nominated but was not able to win and the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse got the prize.
